Tips to Make an Easier Move:
1. Size Matters: The square footage of your home will be a question you are asked in the assessment process or in the preceding conversation. Most moving companies--especially those who you pack and they drive--will ask you the number of rooms you have. This is a very ineffective way of determining how many pods or spaces in the truck they may need or what sized truck they may need etc. We will ask you to find out what the square footage is. Asking how many rooms you have is also a common practice we do not partake in. A room is in no way a unit of measure and there is likely to be a miscalculation. So, how do you find the square footage of your home? If you don't have the deed handy--and most don't--you can look up your property online in the Orange County Property Appraiser. Zillow is another good resource to use in this case.
2. Housing Community Rules: It would be best to contact your HOA for their moving guidelines. Most HOA's have certain days of the week and time of day that is permissible to move. Sunday is normally out of the question and if you live in an apartment complex or condo, then do consult your office. This can make for a very challenging moving experience if it's not approached correctly. Make sure your HOA or complex office knows of your plans to move at least a week in advance if possible. Call them even if you are acquainted with the by-laws of the property. Things may have changed that you weren't aware of.
